Carlsbad
Once known as The Pearl of the Pecos, Carlsbad originated in 1888 as the Town of Eddy, named for Charles B. Eddy, who played a major role in its founding. Improvements to area mineral springs and the touting of their healing properties led to the re-naming of Eddy to Carlsbad, honoring the acclaimed European spa Karlsbad. The discovery of the Bat Cave in 1901 and the opening of Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 1930 has put Carlsbad on the international map. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert along the Pecos River, Carlsbad's tree-lined streets, ample public parks, recreation areas and vibrant business community, make it an appealing place to visit, and live.
